2. Distance and Time Difference

  • China spans five time zones, but the entire country uses Beijing Time (GMT+8).
  • If you're arriving from Europe or America, expect a time difference of 6–13 hours.
  • Domestic flights or high-speed trains may involve long travel distances - please plan rest time accordingly.

3. Flights and Transportation

  • Arrive at the airport 2–3 hours before departure for check-in and security procedures.

  • Chinese people value politeness and respect. A simple smile or "你好 (Nǐ hǎo)" is always appreciated.
  • Avoid discussing sensitive political or historical topics.
  • When visiting temples or religious sites, dress modestly and do not take flash photos.
  • Always ask permission before taking photos of local people.

5. Currency and Payments

  • The official currency is Renminbi (RMB or CNY).
  • Most places accept WeChat Pay, Alipay, and UnionPay.
  • If you are a foreign traveler, you can link your international credit card to WeChat or Alipay for convenience.
  • Cash is still useful in small towns or traditional markets.

6. Health and Safety

  • Drink only bottled or boiled water.
