The latest facilitation measures for customs clearance at Chinese air ports

In 2025, China will actively promote the facilitation of customs clearance at air ports. The General Administration of Customs, the National Immigration Administration, and the Civil Aviation Administration of China jointly issued a notice to further improve the efficiency of customs clearance for import and export goods at air ports, strengthen the guarantee of customs clearance services at major air ports, optimize and improve the 7 × 24-hour customs clearance guarantee system at major air ports such as Beijing Tianjin Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and Chengdu Chongqing region that meet the conditions. At the same time, in air ports that meet the conditions, we will steadily promote the implementation of convenient measures for 24-hour direct transit passengers and direct round-trip crew to avoid border inspection procedures.

 

Entry policy

** * Visa policy * *: Foreigners can choose the corresponding visa category according to the purpose of their visit to China and apply for a visa to Chinese embassies and consulates abroad. The several types of visas that involve foreign experts and their families mainly include: F visa (visitor visa), R visa (talent visa), Z visa (work visa), S visa (visiting spouses or other close relatives who have long-term residency or short-term exchange visits in China), etc.

** * Port Visa Entry * *: Foreign nationals holding ordinary passports who have urgent entry needs and do not have time to obtain a China visa at the embassy or consulate abroad can apply for a port visa. The types of port visas that can be processed include F visa, R visa, Z visa, etc. The application for a port visa must be submitted in advance by the inviting unit to the visa department of the intended port of entry.

** * Transit visa free entry * *: Since December 17, 2014, the National Migration Administration has fully relaxed and optimized the transit visa free policy, extended the stay time of transit visa free foreigners in China to 240 hours (10 days), and added 21 ports as entry and exit ports for transit visa free persons, further expanding the stay area. The countries that apply this policy include 40 European countries, 6 American countries, 2 Oceania countries, and 6 Asian countries. The conditions for visa free transit are that you need to hold your own valid international travel document, which is valid for at least three months, meet the entry conditions for a third country (region), hold a connecting ticket to a third country (region) with a date and seat confirmed within 240 hours or relevant certificates, fill in a temporary entry card for foreigners, and accept the inspection and inquiry of the entry-exit border inspection authorities.

 

*Visa free entry: As of March 2025, holders of ordinary passports from the following countries who come to China for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, exchange visits, or transit for no more than 30 days are eligible for visa free entry, valid until December 31, 2025. Asian countries include Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Brunei; European countries include France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Portugal, Greece, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Andorra, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Cyprus, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia; Oceania countries include Australia and New Zealand. In addition, starting from February 10, 2025, tourist groups from ASEAN countries can enter Xishuangbanna, Yunnan without a visa and stay for 6 days. From November 30, 2024 to December 31, 2025, a visa free policy will be implemented for ordinary passport holders from Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, and Japan.
