West Island is located 8 nautical miles southwest of Sanya City, with a total area of 2.68 square kilometers. It consists of the main island and Niuwang Island and belongs to the national coral reef nature reserve. The visibility in the surrounding waters is more than 15 meters, and it is home to 127 species of marine life such as antler corals and lionfish. It is known as a "world-class diving resort". The reef coastline on the southwest side of Niuwang Island has formed peculiar landforms such as sea caves and weathered reefs under the action of tides. Among them, natural reefs such as "Linggui Stone" are lifelike. The newly built "Intertidal Zone Observation Station" in 2025 can view coral growth data and marine environmental indicators in real time.

The fishing village on the island was built in the Ming Dynasty. There are more than 130 old coral stone houses. The walls are built with coral reef stones and the tile roofs adopt traditional Chinese architectural forms. The renovated "Sea Study" consists of three old fishing boats, with a collection of more than 5,000 books, and has become a popular literary and artistic check-in spot. The Women's Militia Company Memorial Hall records the red history of the "Eight Sisters Artillery Squadron", and the flag-raising ceremony held daily is full of patriotism. In the "Fishing Lantern Night Tour" event launched in 2025, tourists can make bamboo fishing lanterns by themselves and participate in the night old street parade.
